The previous posts were extremely strong. I would merely like to add that a vital element of citizenship is being able to strike a balance between preserving realms of positive liberty and negative liberty. The former has been demonstrated in many of the posts. The idea of joining a club or an organization, or acting in a manner where one's freedom is exhibited is a strong component of citizenship. Yet, there is another defining element to citizenship. This is where individuals acknowledge another's right to be left alone. To act in a manner free of intimidation, harassment, or social encroachment and to stand for allowing others' sense of negative liberty, to be left alone, is something that is vital to a definition of modern citizenship. To act in a manner that represents taking a stand against those who seek to overwhelm others' voices is another aspect of citizenship, preservation of a realm or right to be left alone.
