What is the climax of "How I Met my Husband"?

"How I Met my Husband" is a wonderful "coming-of-age"
story by Alice Munro about a young girl whose heart is broken by a dashing young pilot
who is part of a visiting show.  She learns, very painfully, that Chris, the pilot, is
not who he seems and that he has lied to her.

The climax of
the story occurs when the protagonist, Edie, is confronted by matriarch of the family
she works for. Mrs. Peebles,  and Chris' girlfriend about her relationship with him. 
She is forced to admit to them that she kissed him, but that nothing else occurred, but
it proves to be very embarrassing to her.  In fact, she believes that by kissing him,
she has been "intimate":

Thinking that kissing and
a promise to write constitutes intimacy, she confesses she had been and then cries out
of embarrassment and shame. Eventually the truth comes out, and Alice and Loretta leave.
Mrs. Peebles reprimands Edie, but all then returns to normal—except for the fact that
Edie goes to the mailbox every day hoping for a letter from Chris
Watters.
