What is the role of hormones during pregnancy?

Many hormones influence the functioning of the body during
pregnancy. Among them there are:

-Gonadotropin -this
hormone is secreted only during pregnancy, first by the ovaries and later by the
placenta. Increased secretion of gonadotropin during the first trimester of
pregnancy can cause nausea and vomiting. This hormone prevents the release of other eggs
and stimulates the secretion of estrogen and
progesterone.

- Placental hormone -this hormone, produced
by the placenta, ensures proper development of the fetus and stimulates the mammary
glands during pregnancy.

- Estrogen -this hormone is
responsible for the developing of female sexual characteristics. It is usually secreted
by the ovaries, but also by the placenta during pregnancy, helping to maintain the
normal course of pregnancy.

- Progesterone -this hormone is
secreted by the ovaries and by the placenta, during pregnancy time. It stimulates the
thickening of the uterine wall, before an embryo fixing. During pregnancy, progesterone
is responsible for functioning the placenta. Secretion of progesterone will decrease at
the end of nine months for the labor to be installed.

Other
hormones involved in pregnancy and lactation is prolactin.Cortisol and insulin are also
involved in mammary secretion.
