Collagen is a protein of connective tissue from human and
animal body. Collagen has a flat character and it's obscure in the skin. When it
occurs in tendons, it is in the form of hard and heavy fibrous strings.
Collagen supports the body in many ways, from supporting the blood vessels to the
support of the skin.
The origin of the word is from greek,
and translated means "glue producer". This name has appeared because of boiled animal
skin, from where collagen is isolated to produce the
adhesive.
The body tends to produce less quality colagen or
weaker as it gets older. Skin is actually collagen in 70%. When a small amount of
collagen or of a inadequate quality is produced, the skin loses its elasticity. The age,
and therefore the lack of collagen, is reducing the power to stretch of the tendons. The
ability to move freely and comfortably is reduced because of
that.
Sun's ultraviolet rays are one of the main enemies of
collagen. Also, the residual sugar from digestion has an adverse effect on collagen
from the skin.
